NABSE Foundation Mission

Giving to the Foundation

William EllerbeeI am honored to have been selected as the new Chairperson of the National Alliance of Black School Educators Foundation, Inc. (Foundation). I am following the footsteps of many great leaders who have worked tirelessly over the years to raise funds to support the work of the Foundation. The charge is awesome, but no goal is too high if you climb with care and confidence. I am particularly looking forward to working with our distinguished Foundation Board of Directors who consistently have demonstrated a strong commitment to the Foundation and its mission.

Over the years, many of you have expressed strong support in seeing the Foundation obtain a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. On November 19, 2005, the NABSE Delegate Assembly approved the Foundation moving forward to obtain its tax exemption, and I am delighted to report the appropriate papers have finally been filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We are awaiting the final decision from IRS, which usually takes at least nine (9) months. We appreciate your vote of confidence. I want you to know the Foundation has already begun laying its groundwork to strengthen its focus and support of NABSE’s educational endeavors.

We look forward to enhancing the positive image of NABSE by continuing to support the Charles D. Moody Research and Development Institute on African American Education, the NABSE Demonstration Schools Program, student scholarships and grants, the NABSE Journal, and other education-related activities aligned to the mission of NABSE. In addition, we expect to expand our corporate and foundation gifts, and improve our Planned Giving Program, which includes bequests, trusts, charitable annuities, and gifts of real estate. We also will be exploring online giving, and various fundraising events.

Many people and organizations have dug deeply into their pockets and given generously to the Foundation since it was established in 1988. Some have made ongoing commitments or participated in various fundraising events. Others have promised contributions in the future. Whatever you have given, please know that we are thankful to all of you. The generous spirit of our donors plays a vital role in the Foundation’s ability to fund various projects.

We are looking forward to bigger accomplishments in 2006 with your support. Please make the Foundation a philanthropic priority of yours this year. You can be assured the Foundation will continue to use all gifts, bequests, endowments and private grants in accordance with the directions of the donor.

Decide now to support the Foundation with your contribution and don’t delay. Send your contribution today. Your gift will make a difference this year!

Sincerely,
William Ellerbee, Jr., Ed.D.
