Dr. Marcus Alexander

Marcus Terrell Alexander was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, in Altgeld Gardens. He is a product of the Chicago Public Schools system, having graduated high school at the top of his class from the Chicago Military Academy-Bronzeville. While in High School, he joined the United States Army. In his six years of service, he has held positions such as Financial Management NCOIC, Drill Sergeant, Field Recruiter, Paratrooper, and Battalion Operations Sergeant. In 2006, he was commended by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management/Controller for his outstanding support and leadership during the Base Realignment and Closures (BRAC) proceedings.

Upon retirement from the U.S. Army, Dr. Alexander made a career change into the field of public education. He is certified by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) as a Principal, Chief School Business Official, and Superintendent. Dr. Alexander has had an expansive career in education and is credited for being an expert in school district financial management and school reconstitution. Currently, he serves as the Superintendent of Schools for Calumet Public School District #132. Previously, Dr. Alexander served as the Superintendent of Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259 in Hopkins Park, Illinois, the Associate Superintendent for the Waukegan Public Schools, and also Assistant Principal, Principal, and Central Office Administrator within the Chicago Public Schools.

In addition to a robust career in public school administration, Dr. Alexander is active in his community and supports many not-for-profit organizations. Namely, he has previously served as the President of the Chicago Defender Charities/Bud Billiken Parade, and Board Member of BEYOND Afterschool Club for Kids. He is also active in his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., and has served as the Polemarch (President) of the Calumet City-Lansing (IL) Alumni Chapter.

Dr. Alexander earned his Bachelor's degree from Viterbo University in Psychology, a Master of Business Administration with a double major in Finance and Accounting from American University, and a Doctor of Education degree in Education Administration from Argosy University-Chicago. In 2011, Dr. Alexander completed the Harvard University Urban Superintendent Program, and in 2017, he completed the Chief Academic Officer training program through the Atlantic Research Partners, Inc.

In his spare time, Dr. Alexander enjoys traveling, cooking, playing the piano, and doing community service. He currently resides in Chicago with his wife, Dr. Keya Alexander, and their three children: Kenya, Jackson, and Harper.
